What context does Isaiah 1:1 offer concerning the timing and nature of this message?

According to Isaiah 1:11, God was not pleased with the Israelites’ ritual sacrifices. According to Isaiah 1:16-17, what would He rather receive from His people? How would this challenge the existing beliefs of the Israelites?

Have you ever heard the phrase “The Day of the Lord”? What does Isaiah 2 reveal about this time?

What did God plan to take away in Isaiah 3:1? How had He previously provided these exact things for the Israelites?

Read John 15:1-8. How does this passage correlate to the imagery in Isaiah 4?

Isaiah 4 also uses the depiction of God’s presence as fire and wind. Where else in Scripture has God used these elements as symbols?

Why do you think God sent Isaiah to warn the Israelites of the coming Assyrian invasion? What was God’s hope for His people?

Isaiah likely died before the book of Isaiah was completed. According to Isaiah 8:16, how was his message preserved, and who continued to share it? How is this similar to Jesus and the Gospel writers?

Identify the names of Jesus in Isaiah 9:6. Which of these four titles stands out to you the most?

In Isaiah 10, how did God use the Assyrians for His good and His purposes despite their rejection of Him? What does this say about God’s authority over His enemies?

Read Isaiah 11:1-3. What does it mean that God was growing a new Jerusalem, starting with the line of David? Revisit Isaiah 6:13.

Based on these chapters, how would you define “the remnant”? How do they respond to God’s goodness in Isaiah 12?

If Babylon and Assyria were Israel’s enemies, why did God offer warnings to them and other foreign nations ? What does this say about God’s inclusivity and compassion?

What do the warnings to the many surrounding nations say about the vast impact made by the fall of Jerusalem?

Have you ever felt like God was sending you a warning? How did you respond?

In Isaiah 16, why do you think God was grieved by the downfall of the Moabites?

Read Isaiah 17:7-8. How did Isaiah compare God’s authority to false idols? Who will ultimately receive the glory?

What was the purpose of Isaiah’s nakedness in Isaiah 20? Read Genesis 2:25 and 3:7-13. When did Adam and Eve experience shame in their nakedness?

Does reading Isaiah 24 make you feel hopeful for the restoration of Earth or fearful of its destruction?

Read Revelation 21:4. How does Isaiah’s prophecy, specifically Isaiah 25:8, align with the message of Revelation?

According to Isaiah 26:3, what is the result of fixing our minds on God? Have you found this to be true personally?

How did Isaiah 26:21 foreshadow the arrival of Jesus? Do you think this applies to the first or second coming of Jesus?

Which qualities of God did Isaiah emphasize in his song of praise (Isaiah 26)? Does this seem consistent with his messages of wrath and warning?

Isaiah 32 describes the reign of a future righteous king. How was Jesus different from the Savior that many Jewish people were expecting?

Can you think of a time in your own life when you experienced God’s mercy?

Is it easy or challenging for you to picture God as enraged? If God is loving, do you think that He must hate sin? Does this idea influence your perception of God's love?

What did it mean to be an enemy of God’s people during the time of Isaiah? What does this look like today?

Compare Isaiah 35:5-6 to the miracles of Jesus. How do these specific prophecies serve as evidence that Jesus was the righteous king?

Read Isaiah 35:10. What comes to mind when you think of the joy of the Lord?

How did Hezekiah respond to the mocking attacks of Assyria? Why do you think he made this decision?

Why do you think God chose to extend Hezekiah’s life? Was Hezekiah faithful with the extra time he had been given?

Based on these chapters, how did God plan to restore and redeem Israel after the exile?

Revisit Isaiah 8:16. Why would it be important for Isaiah to have disciples? How could they have impacted the influence of his message?

What do you think it means that God is “unsearchable” (Isaiah 40:28)? What topics or questions make you realize your inability to completely comprehend God’s vastness?

In Isaiah 41, how did God compare those who trust in Him and those who trust in false idols?

Read Isaiah 42:1-9. How did Isaiah describe the qualities of God’s Spirit that would fill His chosen servant? How did Jesus fulfill this description?

Isaiah 43:2 says that God will protect His people, preventing them from drowning in the rivers or burning in the fires. Where have these two specific scenarios occurred in Scripture (see Exodus 14 and Daniel 3)?
