ANSWER THE QUESTIONS + REFLECT ON THE READING
This study encourages going at your own pace, allowing each session to be a day, a week, or however long you need. Each session contains questions to be used for individual reflection or small group discussion.
This study was made to be used alongside Bible reading. Although we have created chapter summaries, there is no substitute for reading God's Word.
OBADIAH 1
A WARNING AGAINST PRIDE + AN INVITATION TO REPENT
How were the nations of Israel and Edom related to Jacob and Esau (see Genesis 25-28)? Why was Edom’s betrayal during Jerusalem’s destruction especially significant in light of this relationship?
Read Matthew 23:12. How does Jesus’ teaching about pride and humility apply to the Edomites’ downfall in Obadiah?
Read Obadiah 1:15 in multiple translations. What do you think this verse means? Do you find it comforting, alarming, or both?
Reflect on Obadiah 1:12. Who or what comes to mind when you read this verse? How can you apply this concept to your life today?
Compare Obadiah 1:21 to Revelation 21:1-5. How does the promise of a restored Jerusalem in Obadiah foreshadow the ultimate restoration described in Revelation? What hope does this give you for the future?
What does the promise of deliverance and restoration for Israel reveal about God’s character? How does His inclusion of Edom in the invitation to repent reflect His mercy?
