READ THE CHAPTERS IN THE BIBLE FOR EACH SESSION
ANSWER THE QUESTIONS + REFLECT ON THE READING
This study encourages going at your own pace, allowing each session to be a day, a week, or however long you need. Each session contains questions to be used for individual reflection or small group discussion.
This study was made to be used alongside Bible reading. Although we have created chapter summaries, there is no substitute for reading God's Word.
SESSION ONE: HEBREWS 1-4
THE SUPREMACY OF GOD’S SON
Read Hebrews 1:1-4. How did the author describe Jesus in comparison to God? What does God say to Jesus alone (Hebrews 1:5)?
Read Psalm 102:25-28. How would the author’s references to Jewish Scripture be impactful to a Hebrew audience?
Hebrews 2:1 instructs believers to pay close attention to what they have heard so they don’t drift away. What are some practices that help you “pay close attention”?
According to Hebrews 2:16-18, who does God provide with help, and how is He able to help?
In Hebrews 3 and 4, the reader is reminded of the Israelites who missed out on the Promised Land by rejecting God. How does rejecting Jesus lead to missing out on rest and peace, both on earth and in eternity?
Read Hebrews 3:14. What does it mean to hold firmly to your confidence in Christ until the end?
How does Hebrew 4:12 describe the Word of God? What does this mean?
How did Jesus’ earthly life allow Him to understand and sympathize with the human experience (Hebrews 4:15)?
SESSION TWO: HEBREWS 5-9
JESUS, THE GREAT HIGH PRIEST
How was Christ appointed differently than the other high priests (Hebrews 5:1-5)?
In Hebrews 5 and 7, what does it mean that Christ was a priest in the order of Melchizedek? See Genesis 14:18-20 or use a Study Bible for help.
How are believers encouraged to live out their faith in Hebrews 6:11-12?
Read Hebrews 6:13-30. How did Jesus fulfill God’s promise to Abraham?
How do Hebrews 7 and 8 compare the new covenant of Jesus to the law?
What purpose does the law hold today? Is it still useful to believers?
According to Hebrews 9, how does the Holy Spirit’s dwelling within believers replace the need for an earthy dwelling place for God?
SESSION THREE: HEBREWS 10-13
SALVATION BY FAITH IN CHRIST
According to Hebrews 9 and 10, how did the blood of Jesus replace the need for the Old Testament sacrificial system?
Read Hebrews 10:24-25. How are believers encouraged to respond to the news of Jesus?
In Hebrews 11:1-3, how did the author describe faith? How would you say this in your own words?
What phrase does the author repeat in Hebrews 11:4, 5, 7, 8, and 9? What message does this convey?
What does it mean that “the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and chastises every son whom he receives”?
In Hebrews 12, how is the blood of Jesus compared to the blood of Abel (See Genesis 4)?
Who does Hebrews 13:1-3 say to remember and care for?
What advice did the author provide believers in Hebrews 13:7-18?
