READING PLAN + STUDY QUESTIONS
HOW TO USE
READ THE CHAPTERS IN THE BIBLE FOR EACH SESSION
ANSWER THE QUESTIONS + REFLECT ON THE READING
This study encourages going at your own pace, allowing each session to be a day, a week, or however long you need. Each session contains questions to be used for individual reflection or small group discussion.
This study was made to be used alongside Bible reading. Although we have created chapter summaries, there is no substitute for reading God's Word.
HAGGAI 1-2
GOD’S PLAN TO REBUILD + REESTABLISH THE TEMPLE
In Haggai 1:2-4, why do you think the Israelites said it was “not yet time” to rebuild the temple? What did God say in response?
Can you think of anything in your own life to which God has called you but you are delaying?
Read Haggai 1:6. What did Haggai say about striving for personal pursuits? What does it mean to put your earnings into a “bag with holes”?
The Israelites were prioritizing their own homes instead of rebuilding the temple. Can you recall a time when you prioritized your own plans over God’s?
How did God encourage the Israelites in Haggai 2:4-5? What can you do to become more aware of God’s presence in your daily life?
In Haggai 2:7-9, God said that the new temple would be greater than the former temple. Can you think of any other times in Scripture when God restored more than what was lost?
What was Haggai describing regarding the transmission of holiness and defilement in Haggai 2:10-19?
God said that He would make Zerubbabel, the governor of Judah, “like a signet ring.” (Look up a picture of a signet ring if you are unfamiliar.) How does this image represent God’s authority and command for Zerubbabel’s leadership?
