LEVITICUS 19

VARIOUS LAWS FOR RIGHTEOUS LIVING

God gives a variety of laws for treating people fairly, taking care of the less fortunate, and being set apart as God’s people. God instructs the Israelites to not fully gather their harvest and to leave some to be collected by those in need.

This chapter contains the famous law, love your neighbor as yourself, which Jesus later quotes in Matthew 22:39 as one of the two greatest commandments. Although God cares about actions and behaviors, he cares more about our hearts and love for one another.

Leviticus 19:2 - Speak to all the congregation of the people of Israel and say to them, “You shall be holy, for I the Lord your God am holy.”
